Although I am obsessed with all of Weems’ work, there is a special place in my heart for her The Kitchen Table Series. I think what gets me about this series is the simplicity; The ability to convey so much from one scene, one location, one family is amazing.
Ghanaian graphic designer Kojo Owusu-Kusi uses an interesting blend of pop-culture and humor that sets his t-shirt line (Citizins) apart from the rest. This same combination along with an underlying presence of his West African roots makes his paintings equally extraordinary. Being born in Ghana and raised in London and Virginia adds to Kusi’s diverse cultural background and contributes greatly to his artwork. With daring pieces his bold concepts offer an interesting perception of popular cultural themes while still leaving much to the imagination.
